The Indian Aztec Healing Clay is one mask that’s been the talk of the beauty world for quite a while now.
And although it has possibly been well over a year since it first emerged into the spotlight, its praises are still being sung loud as ever.
I figured being someone that fell prey to all the hype and now religiously uses it as my go-to face mask, I’d drop a review and tell you guys how I feel about it!
For starters, it’s super easy to find – you can buy it off of Souq, Glamazle or Amazon! Now, the prices usually differ based on where you choose to buy it from and which seller – I bought mine off of Souq for roughly AED 50-60 so keeping that in mind, I’d say it’s a definite steal. Most high-end sheet masks are about AED 100+ and are just a one time use. However, my 1 pound tub has lasted me over a year and I’m not even through half of it! I’ve used less than a quarter of it and make enough for myself and at least 1 or 2 more people with every facial! So in retrospect, regardless of the price tag, it definitely gives you your money’s worth.
Now, moving on to what it does and how it works. I use it when I feel like my skin is getting rough or perhaps my pores are clogged or when I just feel like I need to have a deep clean. Every time after I’m done using it, I instantly feel like my skin is a lot smoother and my pores have been deep cleansed. It makes me feel like my face is super clean and rid of any dirt that could’ve been on it from makeup, the weather or just anything at all! Though thankfully I’m not someone who suffers from acne very much, I can’t vouch for how much it helps with reducing cystic or persistent acne. I have used it while I’ve had perhaps a pimple or two at the most and they have gone away, however that may very well be because that is the norm for me and my pimples eventually do go away after a while on their own. Though I do have a few acne scars, I haven’t had much help with that nor seen any miraculous change in their appearance but I’m not too bummed by it as I’m pretty happy with the results I get either way.
The tub reads that you can mix the powder with either water or apple cider vinegar, however, I choose the latter as I feel like it’ll be more effective. Although when I make my mask, I simply mix the powder with ACV, there are other ways to do it too! For acne prone skin, add a few drops of tea tree oil to your mixture as it contains antimicrobial & antibacterial compounds which act against the bacteria that cause your breakouts!
For normal or dry skin, you could simply add a little bit of rose water or, add some aloe vera into your mixture to give your skin a cooling effect and to feel more refreshed! Although I haven’t given this a try myself, I definitely think it’s going to become an imprinted step in my masking routine as I’d do anything to rehydrate and cool off my skin!
Overall, there are some great masks in the market and this one definitely makes it somewhere at the top of the list. You may think it’s overrated or spoken about too much, but all of it is true! It’s something you’d like to have nearby on your bad skin days. 🙂
And there’s no greater joy than adding a new one to your collection. So I thought I’d share a list of my favorite go-to nude shades!
In no specific order:
1.Sephora Cream Lip Stain – Shade 40 – Pink Tea: I think I’ve made my love for these cream stains apparent on multiple occasions and although I did say this is in no specific order, this has to be my reigning number one. The formula is non-drying, smooth and the color is just right for almost every skin tone and doesn’t leave you looking washed out or too dark or too light.
2. NYX Lingerie – Ruffle Trim: This lipstick was something I ordered from the States on quite a whim after coming across it through a google search – one of the best purchases I ever made! This is probably my everyday lipstick – it’s a nude that’s more on the pink side so it’s perfect for everyday use as it doesn’t come off too strong or dull but rather a little rosy!
3. MAC – Velvet Teddy: This is a nude I’ve wanted for a long time, the Sephora lip stain is actually quite similar to this. This is definitely my favorite MAC lipstick & pairs well with any makeup look and/or outfit.
4. Kat Von D – Bow n Arrow: I received this as a gift & I’m so glad I did because quite honestly, I never bat an eye towards it before. In KVD’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Line, I always had my eyes on shades like Lolita and Outlaw that I never really paid much attention to other variations of the same colors. I love the formula and the texture as I do with KVD but! I must say, fair warning – this does lean towards the brown side.
5. MAC – Twig: Twig is quite similar to Whirl, very similar infact but I would say the only difference is it’s got a more pink undertone. But either way, it’s a gorgeous lipstick that is so worth every cent. You need to get your hands on it and see for yourself.
6. MAC – Whirl: So this is a bit of a cheat because it’s more on the brown side but nonetheless, it’s sort of a nude right? I love MAC as you can tell & this lipstick is definitely one of my staples in my makeup bag.
So that wraps up my top nudes, (for now!) If you’ve got recommendations that aren’t on this list, please drop a comment or shoot me a message; a girl can never have too many lipsticks right? 🙂 x
So not too long ago, I collaborated with a company known as The Dirty Lamb. Coffee being their main identity – I was already on board considering how I love coffee scrubs. And though, I don’t get around to using them very often, I wanted to check out what all the hype was about.
I’ve used them a few times and finally came to an honest, fair consensus.
The Face and Body Scrub has a bit of a strong smell but works wonders on the skin. My face instantly became softer and smoother. To the point where my mother instantly told me I had a glow on my face, LOL. As someone who has dehydrated skin, the one thing that matters to me the most is soft/hydrated skin and this scrub gave me the touch of just that. Retailing at 20$ for an 8 OZ jar, I think it’s a definite steal.
Now coming down to the Turkish Coffee Mask – I had high hopes for this after using the coffee scrub however it didn’t live up to the same expectations, but that’s probably because a) I set the bar too high. b) I didn’t exactly follow the instructions correctly! c) I was unaware of what the mask was actually supposed to look like & so assumed what I was using was how it should be – WRONG! But I’ll get into that in a little bit.
So I put on the Turkish Face Mask and the label on the jar advises to keep it on for about 15-20 minutes but I’m fairly certain I exceeded that – that resulted in having patches of yellow (thank you turmeric!) left around a few areas of my face. Although none were too obvious and they did disappear in a day, I was a little worried at trying my hand at the mask again.
However, after some time I think I came to realize that I hadn’t given it a fair chance – what I failed to notice instantly was that my mask had hardened quite a bit in its jar which was one of the reasons why it was hard for me to put on; it felt more of a scrub than a mask. I think I could credit it to its long journey from Ohio to LA to Dubai since I had it shipped to my brother. Perhaps due to the long ride, the mask may not have been in its right form.
The best part about all this is that – the website provides a ton of information on anything and everything you need to know and I wish I had seen that sooner. Aside from the usual How to Use and Ingredients, it tells you how often you should be using your product, what it treats and even some tips & tricks.
Although I’m yet to give the mask another shot, the multiple (and I mean far more than 10, I’ve done my research!) reviews have me convinced that I’m missing something. Also, I pulled out my jars to take out some pictures for this blog post & I was greeted by a much more mayonnaise-like consistency in the Turkish Face Mask jar, as assumed the mask wasn’t in its right form early on and I’m officially super excited to give it a shot once again.
I will have a follow up added to this post later and a shout on my InstaStories to let you guys know how it went.
But till then, fingers crossed!
Oh and one last thing, the Turkish Coffee Mask retails at 44$ for a 4OZ jar!
But! If you use my code “ZAINAB”, you get a 50% off your whole order. Which means your 8 OZ Coffee Scrub is just 10$ and your Turkish Coffee Mask is 22$! I don’t make any money off of the sales, I’d just like everybody to get good skincare at an affordable price!
im all for the latest trends and the talk of the town, but the joy in discovering products that changed your life and are SO underrated is overwhelming!! im not going to ramble too much & so im just gonna get straight into it:
1. sephora cream lip stains
these are the most beautiful, creamy, non drying mattes i have ever used! ive used a range of liquid lipsticks from colourpop, NYX, kylie cosmetics to kat von d and much much more, but these somehow seem to be my go to lipsticks 99% of the time. these lip stains are so creamy on your lips which make them feel so light and weightless & since they aren’t drying, you don’t expose every chaffed bit of your lips as some other lipsticks do!! although they are a bit steep for sephora’s brand at AED 75 dirhams, i promise they’re worth every cent of your money! im not one to splurge on a product if theres a perfectly equivalent dupe for a much cheaper price but i haven’t come across anything which has a formula even similar to this. im actually still in awe that these don’t have more hype to them.
2. keratin protein smoothing conditioner
this is my holy grail! the texture that follows once youve used this conditioner instantly after youve washed it out (and straight after your first use btw!) is insane. this conditioner leaves my hair soft as baby’s butt and smelling like bubblegum! if im being a 100% honest i don’t really pay attention to the ingredients of my products all too much and just sort of rely on the results to tell me how good it is. but for those of you that do care: the conditioner is infused with hydrolyzed keratin which helps in reducing fizz and blocking humidity. this is sure to revitalize any type of hair! im not sure about the pricing or where you can find it because i got mine in a box subscription but im almost positive that it isn’t exorbitantly priced.
3. vatika hair mayonnaise
im quite specific with the brands i use and tend to only use reputable brands, be it high end or drugstore. and i don’t experiment very much out of my comfort zone, and although i haven’t used any of vatika’s other products (though i hear their hair oils are great), this hair mayonnaise is quite the catch. its a pre shampoo treatment that is used to condition your hair naturally! it contains good ol’ egg protein, honey, olive oil, castor and more! it basically comprises of everything our mothers have been pestering us to put in our hair for a ‘natural’ treatment all in one mask thats already ready and available! i don’t know about any of you, but i was always too lazy to make myself a mix of all those but now this hair mayonaise makes things so much more convenient. the hair mayonnaise can be found at any of your local supermarket chains at quite a reasonable price. its definitely worth a look.
4. indian aztec healing clay
this has quite the hype already although personally i wasn’t convinced and was infact not too bothered about whether i got my hands on it or not. after a nudge from a friend, i did purchase it and im quite glad i did. the biggest plus that i find is the fact that a little goes a LONG way. the tub says it could give you 10-15 facials but i assure you theres a lot more than that. ive had this for somewhere between 3-6 months and my tub looks like its brand new even though ive been using it atleast every other week!! it can be used with either water or apple cider vinegar, although i prefer the latter because id just like it to be as effective as possible. it does cause slight redness once the mask is washed off but its nothing thats permanent or long lasting and usually disappears within 15 minutes to 30 minutes tops. if you have acne prone/oily skin you could also add a few drops of tea tree oil to your mixture and if you have normal/dry skin you could simply add a little bit of rose water! alternatively, you could also mix aloe vera into your mixture to give your skin a cooling effect and to feel more refreshed!! although i haven’t noticed a very noticeable change with my acne (perhaps i wasn’t paying much attention), i have immediately felt that my skin felt a lot more soft, clean and breathable. it definitely lifts and cleans all the dirt from your skin and pores. it is officially the only mask i religiously use and swear by!!
p.s – you can snag this off souq.com!
5. ginkolium lip balm
i barely drink water and in turn that affects my skin and no matter what i do theres no ultimate fix for it besides drinking more water but I’ve been trying to find the next best thing, something to speed up/aid the proces! ive gone through loads of lip balms from every brand possible: maybelline, eos, boots, the body shop and the list doesn’t cease to end! a friend recommended this and after trying it, i won’t lie, i wasn’t convinced at first. i thought it was just like any other lip balm and it didn’t really do much good. however I’ve noticed my lips are in a much better condition. this lip balm repairs dry, chapped lips and leaves them plump, hydrated and healthy looking. i don’t need to use lip balm that often and even if i don’t use it for weeks on end, my lips will still be okay and not require constant care and attention as they would before. a lip scrub once in a while and this lip balm does wonders and leaves you sorted for life! check out boots to grab yours!
6. garnier micellar cleansing water
i completely forgot to add this to the list until my mother reminded me! this drugstore cleansing water is probably one of my best investments ever. it’s basically quite the dupe for bioderma and is probably less than half the price! it lifts off all the makeup off of your skin, including waterproof makeup & doesn’t require you to wash your face after. it is incredibly gentle on your skin, doesn’t require too much rubbing & works great on sensitive skin as well. if you’re splurging on makeup removers, you need to stop and buy yourself one of these! it is an absolute life saver! you can grab this from most/any supermarket chain 🙂
7. inglot breathable (halal) nail polishes
for as long as i can remember not being able to put on nail polish always bummed me out and if i ever did have some on my mum would quickly ask me to take it off before i pray or ask if i was done praying for the day. being quite the girly girl, this used to bum me out more than you’d expect! so you best believe when inglot came out with the concept of halal nail polishes, i was thrilled! this is a must-have product for every muslim girl that loves nail polish. they come in a wide range of colors and some are even matte! i’ve already got myself 4 and i can’t wait to stock up on more. check out your nearest inglot store or their online website to see the different shades!
im still discovering more products as i explore and if you know of any hidden gems, shoot me a message or drop a comment! id love to try them out 🙂
